'Like a crocodile of convent girls in pale grey uniforms, a flock of these in your garden will wander round the garden together, pecking up grass, bugs and grubs, but leaving the vegetables for you. They will raise the alarm to strangers. Good all-rounders, the hens will lay 50-80 eggs a year and make a tasty game supper too.'
